August 2022:
"Happy Christmas and new year to all your team. Thank you all for the given and all the gifts. They were all unexpected. The phone has been and will be very useful. It has already been used to stop me running out of gas for cooker (which I use for heating and cooking) and calling emergency services as advised by go staff with some help as I lost my voice and ran out of hearing aid batteries to hear with. I'm ok now though. Christmas plans were changed at last minute and couldn't get out to do Christmas meal shop so Christmas meal delivered was very appreciated especially as didn't feel well enough to cook much and was a nice surprise which also let me spread the food I have in a bit further as I am now isolating incase..."

On Thursday, 6 April, Cassandra Centre held a special Ramadan celebration for our ladies and their children. Not only was the evening educational, but it also showed unity and friendship. Our ladies were overwhelmed because they had never been in company at this time. They previously broke fast with their children. Thank you to Afsha, Sara and family members for supporting us and providing food. Everyone had a fantastic evening.

South Thames Wandsworth Freshers Fair

We were delighted to be asked to attend South Thames Wandsworth Freshers Fair and introduce ourselves to the young people there. We came with cakes and brownies (as always!) and shared the services we provide. We got tremendous attention at our table, and by sharing knowledge and letting young people know we are a safe space, we continue our fight against domestic violence.

Healthy Relationship Workshop

Our caseworkers Sophie and Chiola delivered a Healthy Relationship Workshop at Nescot College in Epsom on the 21st of October to 40 young women aged 16-17. This became an incredible discussion as they talked about domestic abuse and giving consent. Cassandra Centre believes more should be done in colleges and schools regarding these topics to ensure young women know and understand their rights regarding sex and domestic abuse and where to gain support and advice to prevent more young people from dying at the hands of a partner!

Half Term Trip!

Thank you to the Henry Smith Charity and Love Norbury for providing funding that is allowing the Cassandra Centre to take 30 children who have experienced Domestic Violence to Chessington Adventures.

Fundraising Bingo Night

We held a fundraising bingo night on 12th November to raise money for December play scheme.

Men’s focus group

We ran a series of sessions to encourage men to share their feelings and views, including on domestic abuse.

Legal advice seminar

Barristers from Goldsmith Chambers held a free legal advice seminar for women who are suffering domestic abuse and have no recourse to public funds.

Keeping safe sessions

For parents of children with special educational needs and disabilities.

During lockdown 2020

Free Meals Delivery Service

From March to June 2020 for the duration of the UK’s Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, the Cassandra Centre offered a free meal delivery service to the elderly, vulnerable, and self-isolating adults in the Norbury, Pollards Hill, Lambeth and Wandsworth areas.

Online chair-based dance programme

To provide support to senior members of the community who were at home during the Covid-19 pandemic, the dance instructor Hannah Ruth produced a six-week online chair-based dance programme by A.S.K.I to help keep people fit.

Summer Activities

In summer 2020, the Cassandra Centre offered lots of activities for young people aged between 6 and 16 in the local community. The activities included arts and crafts, outdoor games and chess lessons.
