Lunch Club

Welcome Back
We hope everyone enjoy the summer break; we had some beautiful weather – some days it was too hot!
As you know, the lunch club is a continuation of the lunches we delivered during the lockdown. I am so pleased that so many of you took the initiative to meet every Thursday once it was safe to meet after lockdown.
Lockdown wasn’t easy for many, not just for the elderly but for the young and vulnerable. My heart is still broken for the vulnerable young man we lost during the pandemic; he was 32.

Our intention of the lunch club is to prevent loneliness and isolation, and we had hope that by meeting up, we would form a lasting friendship as a community.

As an organisation, we are not funded to deliver this service, and as you are all aware, Croydon borough declared itself bankrupt in November 2020.

I have used funds from our charity to deliver this service and keep it at the standard we have done since 2021:
·       Weekly meet-up
·       Activities
·       Two courses, hot meal vegetarian options,
·       Refreshments
·       Art and craft
·       Bingo/quizzes
All for £5 per week.

During the summer months, we had planned a few trips, including the Southend trip; members of the club felt they could not contribute a minimal amount towards the cost of the coach and withdrew from attending.
Coaches were booked well in advance, and there was no cancellation once the booking had gone through.
The cost of coaches and outings is extortionate due to the increase in fuel.

We will, therefore, not book any further outings unless all members are in agreement and payment is made upfront at least a week before the actual departure.

The monthly rental cost of HH is also of concern, and we will have to cut back after Christmas: as it is around this time, the new management is likely to take over the running of the hall.

The lunch club do not provide transport:  There are local cab service or Dial-A-Ride services available

Thorpe Park
Sophie was able to get a small number of tickets and planned a successful day at Thorpe Park for 22 children and young people we work with at the centre. A day full of fun, rides making memories and unlimited pizza!

Trips Out
With Christmas around the corner, we are looking to see if we can get discounted tickets to go to Winter Wonderland. We will have an update on price etc soon.
If you have ideas about where you would like to go, please let a staff member know!
